About Dan Dickau
Daniel David Dickau was born September 16 1978 in Portland, Oregon to Randy and Judy Dickau. He has one sister Amy. When he is not playing basketball he enjoys playing golf and listening to various types of music (R&B, Hip-Hop and Country). As you may imagine, he admires former Gonzaga and Utah Jazz star John Stockton. Some of his favorites include ESPN Sportscenter, loves to eat barbeque, and is a huge Milwaukee Brewers fan. Once his playing career ends he would like to become a high school basketball coach and play lots of golf.

He graduated with a degree in broadcasting from Gonzaga, earning a 3.4 GPA and was a two-time Verizon/College Sports Information Directors of America District 8 All-Academic pick and two-time WCC All-Academic selection. On August 2, 2002 he married the former Heather Nevenner. Heather was a former team member of the Portland Trailblazers dance team, the BlazerDancers.

HIGH SCHOOL

Attended Prairie High in Vancouver, playing with former Gonzaga forward Zach Gourde. Averaged 20.0ppg, 5.0rpg and 7.0 assists/game as a senior. Prairie went 22-4 and advanced to the Washington State Class AAA semifinals, losing to eventual champion Mercer Island. Dan was Honorable Mention, Greater St. Helens league selection as a sophomore, first team all-league as a junior and senior. Scored 47 points in a 80-47 win over Camas. As a junior averaged 19.7ppg and 16.0 as a sophomore. State of Washington Class AAA Player of the Year as selected by the Associated Press, Seattle Post- Intelligencer and the Tacoma News Tribune. Named to the Seattle Times All-State team. Attended Nike camp during the summer of 1996, and was listed as 20th overall among recruits on the Long Beach Press-Telegram. Selected as the 15th best point guard prospect by Basketball Times magazine, also lettered in two years in Golf.

Dan Dickau’s Collegiate Career

Freshman(1997-98):
Reserve point guard led the University of Washington in 3-point field goal percentage, hitting 16-of-30 attempts for 53.3 %. Went 13-of-20 from long range over the final 13 games of the season, hit a pair of treys and had two steals in 17 minutes against Xavier in the NCAA Tournament first-round win. Season 12 points at Arizona, 11 against Arizona in Seattle and 10 at UCLA. Season high four assists at UCLA and California. Pacific-10 Conference All-Freshman Team Honorable Mention.

Sophomore(1998-99):
Started 11 games for Washington, averaging 4.6ppg and 2.6 assists/game. Played 13 games prior to being sidelined for the remainder of the season with a fractured left heel after only three games of the Pac-10 Conference season.

Junior(1999-00):
Transferred to Gonzaga and sat our season under NCAA transfer rules.

Junior(2000-01):
Averaged 18.9 points and his 150 assists rank sixth on Gonzaga’s all-time single-season list. His assists average (6.3apg) would have ranked him 14th in the nation had he not missed 9 games due to dislocating and broken left index finger. Scored a season-high 39 points against Santa Clara in the final weekend of the regular season. Scored 25 points in the finals of the WCC Tournament against Santa Clara was named WCC Tournament MVP. Also was a First-Team All-WCC selection. Dan scored 20 points against Indiana State, including 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the second round of the tourney. Scored 19 points against Michigan State in the Sweet Sixteen defeat in the NCAA Tournament.

Senior(2001-02):
Dickau played for Team USA at the World University Games last summer, the team won bronze medal in Beijing, China. Dan averaged 4.8ppg, 1.3rbg, and 1.1 assists in China. Led the West Coast Conference in scoring (21.0ppg, 26th in Nation) and three-point field goals made (117, 2nd in Nation) and ranked second in free throw percentage(.864), three point percentage (.457, 10th in Nation) and assists (4.7apg). Topped the 20-point plateau 17 times, Scored a career-high-tying 39 points against Portland. In the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against Wyoming scored 26 points in the defeat. Was named MVP of the WCC Tournament for a second straight year and was named WCC Player of the Year and First Team All-WCC, as well as NABC District 14 First Team. Became First Associated Press First Team All-America selection in Gonzaga history. Also was named to the John Wooden Award top five in Player of the Year balloting, as well as being a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year Award. Dan ended his career at Gonzaga as seventh all-time in assists (299) and 16th in scoring (1,125).

Dan Dickau NBA Career

Dan was drafted with the final pick of the first round in the 2002 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings and than traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Dan has been a journeyman in his three years in the league, but has finally found a home in New Orleans with the Hornets. This is what one NBA scout says about Dan “Relentless. Dickau is a top-notch shooter and playmaker. Difficult to guard because of his ability to sink the jumper or take it to the hoop. Very active on the offensive end; is deceptively quick. His game definitely has a flair to it”.

2002-03:
Appeared in 50 games for Atlanta, averaging 3.7 points and 1.7 assists in 10.3 minutes per game. Shot 80.8% from the foul line and 36.1% from the 3-point range. Placed on injured list following surgery to his left knee on (11/20/02) and missed 20 games. Dan had than career highs with 16 points vs. Golden State on 2/11/03 and 10 assists vs. Dallas on 1/8/03.

2003-04:
Played a total of 43 games for the Hawks(23) and Blazers (20). Dan averaged 2.2ppg in 6.8 minutes per game. Dan scored a season-high 9 points in back to back games vs. Memphis (3/3/04) and vs. Detroit (3/4/04).

2004-05:
Dan had a breakout year, playing in a total of 71 games and starting 46 of them. Career highs in all major categories, 12.5ppg, 2.5rpg, 4.9apg, and 31.0 minutes per game.

2005-2006:
After the breakout season with New Orleans Dan was highly sought as a free agent point guard and eventually signed a three year guaranteed deal with the Boston Celtics. Unfortunately, early in the season Dan suffered a season ending injury while playing in Chicago. It was determined that Dan tore his Achilles and faces a lengthy rehab prior to rejoining the Celtics in the 2006-2007 campaign. As of April 2006 Dan is slightly ahead of his rehab schedule and should be ready for training camp next season.
