The cost to play in the event is $150, which includes golf, lunch, dinner, great tee prizes from Nike, silent auction items from Nautilus among others, and entrance into a raffle with a chance to win many more prizes. The Shootout will benefit Courts for Kids, a newly formed non-profit organization that seeks to impact the lives of youth both here and abroad. Courts for Kids takes teams to countries in the developing world to build sports facilities for communities where there is little opportunity for kids to play sports. Founder and President Derek Nesland, a former basketball standout at Evergreen High School and Portland State University, sees Courts for Kids making a great impact not only on those communities in great need, but also on local youth, as well as adults. “Any time we have an opportunity to be immersed in a culture so different from our own, especially in the parts of the world that are so disadvantaged economically, it causes us to reflect on our own lives in a way we never imagined. I have seen the impact of these trips first-hand and am excited to provide opportunities for more kids to have a similar experience.” Dan Dickau, former Gonzaga All-American, current Los Angeles Clipper, and Vancouver native, sees this as golf tournament as a great opportunity to give back to his local community. He says, “I have known Derek for many years and I have seen that he has a heart to help people. With this new organization, he’ll be able to help kids not only locally but also around the world. It is a pleasure to help plan a tournament like this that can benefit a great cause. I hope many people in the community can come out and support the event” The Title Sponsor for the Event is Portland Candle, Supporting Sponsors are The Heathman Lodge and The Red Lion, and the major In-Kind Sponsors are Nautilus and Nike. There are more sponsorship opportunities ranging from $250 to $1,500.
